Strategies for Effective Hair Removal for your Summer Holiday

Most women make the effort to have regular appointments at their favourite hair salon to take care of the hair on their head, but do we take as much care of the hair on the rest of our bodies? Is your body beach ready? Smooth, sleek and hair free in all the right places?

The removal of unwanted body hair has become an art form but which are the best methods available and which is right for you?

Shaving
More women make use of the razor blade for hair removal than any other method. A quick whip round with the razor will leave you hairless at a price that is affordable for most budgets. Although it's quick, many women end up with unsightly nicks and cuts or, worse still, shaving rashes that look worse than the hair did. If you are lucky enough not to cut yourself or end up with a shaving rash, the initial results are good but don't last long.

Hair Removal Creams (Depilatories)
These creams and lotions are chemical preparations that dissolve the hair but do not affect the root. They aren't very highly spoken off due to their smell, huge mess factor and their unsuitability for anyone with sensitive skin. Although it must be said, they have come on in leaps and bounds in recent years and many of these issues have been resolved. They offer a rapid and effective solution at an affordable price. They are also incredibly easy to use. The results are also longer-lasting than those you get from shaving.

Waxing
We can't lie, waxing can be painful. For every bad however, there is a good. With waxing you will stay hair-free for weeks and will never end up with the stubbly feeling you get after shaving. The hair follicles are fairly strong but, with continued waxing, they weaken over time and the whole process becomes less painful. Given this, you should maybe consider having your first few waxes done by a professional at a salon. After your first few waxes, from an expense point of view, you will find you'll still get super results at a fraction of the price by using one of the numerous wax at home kits that are now on the market.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Hair Reduction Systems
These systems are fairly new and make use of the same technology that the salons and clinics have been offering but at a fraction of the price. The technology “reduces” the hair regrowth as opposed to eliminating it so they do not give permanent results but they will stop the hair growing back for anything up to 6-8 weeks.

IPL hair reduction systems work best on light skin tones and dark hair. Although they use similar technologies, each system is different so be sure to check you are buying something that is apt for your skin and hair type.
